ooh, I've only just noticed my vid is on here! thank you Iamo4 for posting it, and yours, Jinxed and Undownturnable's kind comments! It's not the first one I've put together but the first I've been brave enough to upload. I was a bit anxious because it's assorted stills rather than moving footage (I'm working up to that, LOL) so I'm very pleased that it seems to have gone down well - as soon as I heard that track from Peter Gabriel I knew I had to use it... I had a lot of fun putting it together. Well, looking at pics of John ... how could I not?!

I've posted two videos to YouTube. The first is a very brief compilation of John's three appearances on the SPoTY program. No bells and whistles here.
The second is a reposting of a video that's been on aikainkauna's tumblr site for a year. I now have the technology to copy it and load it on The Tube. It's the one where you can clearly hear John singing along to I Can't Decide.

Busy youtuber you PP - thanks!!
Know my eyes will always gravitate to the John bits in anything shown, but if it's not too much trouble, and you've a mind to, could you possibly post the whole vignette? Got such a kick out of the banter in it and observations of Noel Gallagher!

I just happened to come across this on YouTube after I listened to the Radio 6 interview with John on there. It's a clip of two different versions of Hamlet, Act 2, Scene 2. The first version has our lad playing the part, and the second version has David Tennant in the role.
Honestly, it's hard for me to say who is better, but if I were to pick one, I'd have to give John the edge. He uses his voice and face more than David does to get across the more subtle emotions, such as Hamlet's sense of moral outrage, not just at Claudius's betrayal, but at his sanctimonious hypocrisy, as well as at Hamlet's own ambivalence regarding his duty to avenge his father's murder.
All I can say is that if John's performance in this clip is only a fraction of what you lucky ones were able to experience live last year, then you were most fortunate indeed!

He was absolutely fantastic, LegalEagle; I'd never seen any Shakespeare live before that, so had precious little to compare to - but I was absolutely riveted and had no problem understanding what was going on (which is a complaint I have heard from various people about Shakespearean English before).
Really looking forward to seeing him tackle Harold Pinter in May/June next year!!

Thanks, PP, for posting the whole rather droll Manchester piece from SPOTY. It does give this non-Brit a taste of the fierce rivalry between United and City--perhaps akin to the Chicago baseball teams Cubs - White Sox here (only more intense!).
I wouldn't have known who the chap in the red jersey was if imaof4 hadn't referred to him (Noel Gallagher); I guess they decided they didn't need to identify John either! Is the woman holding the sign(s) also well known?

Appreciate ever so much PP you're taking the time and effort in making the vid - the best bit of a 2 hour programme!! Just puts a smile on my face!
olenza, don't know the bloke in the red jersey either - Noel's filmed outside, in a grey suit jacket. His first observation about City is 'We've got a more loyal, better dressed support then they have.'
Don't feel qualified leageleagle50 to make comparisons between David and John's Hamlet - I've only seen John's live performance and David's on DVD, so I wouldn't really know where to start. Feel each performer brings his own to the part. And I admire them both (ok, a wee prejudiced towards John, but then, what would you expect?)

I'm guessing the bloke in the red jersey is an actor from Coronation Street. Don't watch it but he was filmed in front of the famous Rovers Return pub No idea who the lady with the signs is - another Corrie regular maybe?? Football rivalry is a strange one - coming from Liverpool we had the Everton/Liverpool fans rivalry, but both were united against the Manchester teams, and all four united against teams from London

Well spotted you, jinxed! With the Coronation Street connection, I was able to identify the Salford native in the red jersey, standing in front of The Rovers Return as the actor Alan Halsall (plays Tyrone Dobbs). Haven't followed Corrie for years (at least not on a consistent basis).

I see such rivalry at work between the reds and the blues. My boss is a blue and proudly uses his Everton mug. I prefer my Baxter one
Thanks for those clips PP - short but
I've seen Both JS and DT playing Hamlet on stage and I definitely think that JS has more stage presence as Hamlet. I really loved his 'angry young man approach'. Only of course it was much more subtle than that - his seething anger toward Claudius and, at times, his mother plus the gentle, happy camaraderie with Horatio and his passionate appreciation of the actor who recited a speech for him.
