Found this Russian blog based on the performance on September 17th. Tried to translate some of it through babelfish, although that doesn't work very well. At least I was able to glean that this person loved the performance, and spent a lot of time comparing JS' Hamlet to DT's effort in the role as well as worrying about how tired JS was after the show. A video of the bows is available on the blog too (as well as the autograph session). Listen for the change in applause when JS walks on stage, and notice how embarrassed he looks... (On second thought, embarrassed is the wrong word here - can anyone help me with a better description?)

Sorry, can't stay away. Not when there's this plethora of Simm goodies to catch up on.
The vid of the bow - when John came out and the applause increased!! He looked somewhat embarrassed... he is in the lead role after all.
I can read the blog (big whoop!), but not translate. I can scout around for native Russians (we do have on our forum if they'd like to volunteer ) I know if we would like a translation. The signed programme has gotten me thinking I'll bring a pen that writes in a light/ white colour so John won't have to sign on his forehead?
Asking for opinion, do you think it too forward to bring my SIT programme as well, just in case I've an opportunity to "catch up?"

I don't think it's too forward at all, I'm sure he'll appreciate it. And a light coloured pen is probably a good idea too! Hopefully he'll continue to enjoy meeting his fans at the stage door as much as he did in the vid above...

Oh the marvels of modern technology - how wonderful to see just that little bit of theatre action, the curtain call for principals and then the whole cast! Not only that, but I am able to spot exactly where I'll be sitting on Oct. 21!

UTD you're going to have your own fan club at this rate - how DO you find all this stuff?!?
How lovely to see this footage... and yes, self-conscious is almost certainly the right way to describe how John seems in the curtain call, bless him - and he looks really tired, too - no spring in his step as he walks off stage but after three and a half hours it's no wonder!
Coo, you've excelled yourself UTD. He looks shattered. God knows how he's going to manage the whole run.
Hopefully he'll hit his stride... it's probably the reason they aren't doing as many matinees as you'd normally get... *prays that he keeps his strength up and doesn't get sick before 23rd October*

I'll take a stab at translating some of it:
"On Friday I saw the premiere of 'Hamlet' by William Shakespeare, the title role played by the unbelievably fine John Simm, more known as the Master from Doctor Who or Sam Tyler from Life On Mars.
"I had quite retained my memory of the performance of David Tennant in the same role one year ago, so the comparative analysis was to not be avoided in any way. I all was afraid I would see the Master instead of Hamlet, but, fortunately, it did not happen. Despite that, the mad Master from The End of Time all the same sometimes showed through, especially when Hamlet desperately appealed проклятья [untranslatable -- sorry!] on a head of the uncle of the-villain."
The poster also goes on to comment about the costuming, which she liked (as do I; it's a nice mix of traditional and modern, especially John's outfit) and the supporting cast, and she then makes this observation about John:
"It seemed to me, that playing in despair and depression for almost 4 hours had absolutely exhausted Simm; on bowing at the end, he hardly seemed alive. And the public especially did not insist on an encore, which has me slightly surprised; I thought, they will clap more strongly and longer. Probably, all are simply tired. 4 hours in Old English will tire anybody."
She also said that even though he was tired, he was extremely gracious afterwards, signing autographs and answering questions from fans, as well as thanking them for their kind words of praise.
What I got from her comments is that John's Hamlet is much darker than David Tennant's was, and that she really enjoyed his performance.

OK, I'm going to maintain my ladylike demeanour - no maybe not. *has a hissy fit, wha', you thought I was gonna throw some swear words around? (could have tho')* I don't get it, I really don't. Having something signed by our most beloved performer would never leave my possession.
But then again, I'm not an autograph seeker normally. I did buy an autograph once, DT was doing a benefit for Headway Essex (I've had students with Traumatic Brain Injury).For a donation of Ј40 I received a card with a very lovely photo, autograph and pre-printed words of thanks.
