I agree, Jinxed - I used to have a couple of Ryan's albums on my iTunes - but somehow I seem to have lost the files, possibly when I transferred from one laptop to
another... Which is rather annoying!

Iamo4, talking of Retro, you're talking to someone who used to record stuff off the radio and TV using one of those cassette recorders Sam was so fond of in 1973; I would have the microphone surrounded on three sides by foam and taped to the radio/TV speaker... ah, brings back memories, lol!

I hoped knew someone more techie than me (not difficult to do) would know how to make the interview available to everyone. Here it is:

I posted the interview on YouTube (minus the songs) with images, some appropriate to the conversation.

It's in three parts -- I had to work around the song breaks:

(That's my copy of "The Beatles' Second Album." :) )

For some very weird reason my YTDL software keeps failing on the DL... odd! Has anyone else tried, and with what result?

You've done a very nice job there, PP - nice choice of photos!

There is just so much to like about this interview - from the trying to imagine what this musical haven of a loft den might look like to the sound of traffic going past (proving that it wasn't recorded in a studio!) and hearing John say 'bums' being just a couple, LOL. I think the word I'm looking for is 'delightful'. And you have no IDEA how thrilled I was to hear him say that he used to buy 'Elvis Monthly'... my sister and I used to get that every month (on subscription) and my over-riding memory of the magazine is the smell of it (yes, I am an unashamed book-and-magazine-sniffer, I can't lie)!! That and the many gorgeous photos each issue used to have... it's a rather strange (and very fan-girly!) feeling to realise that he and I were probably looking at the same magazines at round about the same time (even though I am a few years older :( ). Have to say, he has excellent taste in music - there were only a couple of tracks I didn't much care for and OMG I haven't heard the Fleetwood Mac one in years... and had quite forgotten how much I used to love it!

It was a real treat (and I think I would say that even if it wasn't John; but being as it was, it was double the pleasure, LOL)

Nice work PP
I have to agree edzel2, this was delightful. In fact one of the most relaxing hours spend over the holidays after shutting myself away for a proper listen - bliss :-*

'...used to record stuff off the radio and TV using one of those cassette recorder...'

I remember doing the same exact thing edzel2! :D

It was quite a relaxing listen. Seemed more of a conversation than an interview (in the home of John)... 'Let's see what memories these records will bring' kind of thing. And he shared such fun memories! :-*

My collection of (oh dear, vintage :D) records are stored not in boxes, but milk crates, each carefully ensconced in their album sleeves, placed in a sturdy shelving unit (er, not in a loft room, corner of my home office). I was pretty fastidious with my records from the get go. Unlike the nostalgic opening, with the crackly sound from the broadcast, I attempt to minimise it with careful cleaning and dusting of my records and player needle. End of the world if something got scratched! ???

Do appreciate the significant contribution of The King to music and how truly iconic he was (most definitely his younger years), but never was a fan. Always seemed my mum's thing rather than mine.

Beatles was a whole other thing entirely.

Just enjoying John's perspective and anecdotes on his vinyl collection.

'...used to record stuff on the radio and TV using one of those cassette recorder'

You too Edzel2 and Imaof4?
I used to do exactly the same thing :D
I used to do the same thing with CDs aswell. Infact I've still got a cassette recorder (and personal cassette player) and cassette tapes. Also got a few vinyls.

Really enjoyed hearing John discuss his vinyl collection and musical memories in such a relaxing and fun way.
Thankyou PP :)
