Just thought I'd share these as I found them funny :)

They are paraprosdokian (from Greek "παρα-", meaning "beyond" and "προσδοκία",meaning "expectation") which is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. Apparently.

I've put them in attachment as there are rather a lot, some more amusing than others. It's as good a time as any to experiment with attachments.

ETA:- Just to confuse things I wanted to edit something in the document but couldn't see a way of doing it and reattaching it to my original post so I deleted and reposted it. Sorry UTD and thanks for the prescient comment ;)

I was going to congratulate UTD on her clairvoyance!! :D

These are really funny - thanks ever so much for sharing them Phyllis!! :) And I learned a new word today - paraprosdokian! *just remember not to order in a Greek restaurant, or perhaps, do! ;)*

Ouzo anyone? If you're like me and don't like licorice you won't like ouzo - but it is the most popular drink in Greece.

Lesson is all planned, resources/ materials at the ready. outstanding activities and powerpoint and ... ;) so we'll reconvene next week.

Thanks so much for the well wishes smallhobbit and Phyllis!

And we've all made it to the weekend! Our minds and hearts are with our friends in Sheffield - wet or cold - are bound to be having one outstanding time!! ;D

Don't know where really to put this, just wanted to lift a glass in honour of John Lennon's birthday.
Radio's been playing his songs /interviews since Friday. My heart still aches from the loss. Trying hard to take Cynthia Lennon's advise at the monument unveiling in Liverpool: "I think the mourning is over for John.
I think it's time to celebrate, which is what we're doing. Think about [anything in] his life that was positive and just enjoy that. Enjoy the joy that he had and that we all have from his music."

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool....00252-27439271/

Loads of piccies of John, iconic, artistic, but I like this one, full of life and enjoying himself...

So glad they decided to put it in Liverpool and not Berlin - much more significant. Thanks for the link imaof4 - doesn't Julian look like John - spooky.
Will have to go a see that soon although I'm not sure I like the statue, maybe a little garish ??? - I saw the memorial in Central Park and that was very simple but moving.

Oh yeah, definitely agree, Liverpool was a much, much better choice than Berlin. Got a lump in my throat looking at that massive billboard of John and Julian behind the monument.Julian most definitely favours his father, always has (in singing voice as well).
I was happy to see a young artist's work being used, and she kinda explains what she was going for: http://www.cleveland.com/popmusic/index.....ren_voiers.html...I don't want to judge a piece I haven't really seen. It might be just a bit too busy, but it's there now.

Julian requested a white feather be incorporated in the sculpture; which the artist did.http://www.whitefeatherfoundation.com/

I've seen the Lennon Imagine memorial in Central Park: http://www.flickr.com/photos/elsa11/4496....74139/lightbox/ and it's beautifully understated. The land from 71st to 74th streets (2.5 acres), are designated and maintained as Strawberry Fields.

I had been student in NYC in 1980. :'(

Aww gisyl, I'm missing you by a day (I'm going 21 October). I'll be taking the train back to London by Friday noon.

You've been a busy traveler and recruiting more admirers of John S. to boot! :)

Don't deny JB's an entertainer, comedic, good singer, easy on the eyes - just wouldn't consider myself a fan. He should live and be well and dance and sing around the stage till he's 90...

Awww,that is really too bad.
But it`s gonna be a fast trip for us aswell,we go back to london after the performance,so.

Hahaha,I have, although,I admit that the JB ticket was a late thing.
But it was absolute fun.
Oh,I don`t think I have to do much converting,he`ll be impressing them i`m sure.

JB has so much energy,it really shines off him almost.
But the most fun for me atleast is to see that he himself really enjoys it aswell.
It is no act or fake,he does enjoy doing what he does and in the process pulls everyone in.

I guess I subscribe to slow travel - If I'm someplace so late, I much rather stay over. Understand others need to do otherwise.
