 Discovering Hamlet
« Thread Started on Apr 3, 2012, 1:25am »

Has anyone heard about this Sky Arts program? This is all I know:

"[David] Tennant and John Simm are among the famous names and faces contributing to the Sky Arts 2 documentary Discovering Hamlet, which is scheduled to be broadcast on Sunday 15th April at 9.40pm." (source: http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2012/03/dwn290312112808-people-roundup.html)

More here: http://skyarts.sky.com/discovering-hamlet

Silly question most likely, but is this a pay channel?

Uh, huh, Sky's a (pay) cable channel. Sky Arts 1 and 2 come with specific Sky Entertainment Packs. Terrific opportunity for subscribers to watch!

Did find and posted a resource about broadcasts of the Bard's work yesterday (including some by David Tennant on Radio 3): http://www.johnsimm.net/index.cgi?board=david&action=display&thread=1414&page=5

That's what I hope since I saw the schedule :(

but I have a question about this. Are they actually going to show clips from his performance? As far as I know,JS Hamlet performance wasn't available on DVD (like Tennant's)
or just the interviews. The ad says "experiences" but I don't know.

This is the same channel that showed 'In Love with Shakespeare' (and are still showing it!) so as that ended up on YT I'm sure the same kind soul who copied that will do the same with this 8-)
I'm hoping for some interview footage maybe - there were snippets of John's Hamlet filmed but not much. Should be interesting though ;D

For those who have Sky, don't forget about Discovering Hamlet tonight at 9:40.

The request that someone record and post the program is making the rounds on tumblr. *fingers crossed*

Watched this last night - really interesting. John's contribution was short but lovely. Some well known faces contributing - David Tennant, Christopher Plummer, Paul Miller who directed John's Hamlet, Jonathan Miller, Trevor Nunn, and a rather lengthy waffle from John Nettles ???
It looks like it was filmed during the Sheffield run as Nettles was interviewed on set. They also showed clips from various filmed versions of Hamlet.

Haven't seen it posted on yt as yet... There is a quite a decent vid of Discovering Hamlet, just not the one we're looking for! ::) It's from 1988, an upcoming thespian, Kenneth Branagh... being directed by Derek Jacobi...

Info from aikainkauna's tumblr says DT and JS's Hamlet bits are very short - still wanna see 'em 'tho!.

I wonder whether this is reason why we haven't seen the bits from the documentary yet, anywhere.People don't upload it as their parts are so short ? ???

There was quite a bit of DT in the program but just two snippets of John filmed by the look of things at the same time as this photo shoot...
