It's getting very exciting now , my first time seeing Mr Simm on the stage . I've been out today buying some new things to wear , I've even bought shoes with a heel for the first time in years ! Lol :-)

I'm usually dressed in t-shirt and jeans with flats , cos I'm more used to going to rock concerts :-)

That certainly is short and sweet ;D

Still it will be fantastic seeing John live on stage again!!

Is anybody wondering what dress the cast will be in? Flares and black leather jackets maybe...

Short and sweet indeed '...such stuff As dreams are made on'. Not Hamlet, but another play I've seen recently and so it was fresh in my mind.

It will be fantastic seeing John on stage again kindredspirit. I'm not sure how I'll cope with flares etc., unless it involves tight red cords à la Sam Tyler...

He's a key witness. So could you treat him like a person, Phyllis. D'you remember "people"? You used to be one!

I don't really envision too much of a 'period costume' version of Betrayal. Possibly there could be one or two subtle touches but since the action moves quickly through a number of years, distinctive 70's clothing would not be appropriate for all the scenes (and no time for costume changes!).

Also, my guess is that a director would reject an all-out flares, 'taches, etc. approach as a distraction from the language and spirit of the play.

;D Definitely more pub time then!!! I saw on the AD's blog that it was coming in at a little over an hour but got the impression they might try to pad that out a bit...obviously that didn't happen, lol. I think it must be one of the shortest plays ever...!

I must admit I had never considered that 'extreme costume' might be a distraction from the action, but thinking about it, I can kind of see how that might work - and I suppose the aim is to entertain the typical theatre goer, that is someone who will see the play once, so everything has to be spot on. No idea what the percentage of people who go more than once is but I'm guessing pretty small...?!

Two more sleeps for me....!

I was ONLY joking when I put that maybe the cast would be in flares etc.
To be honest I havent really given much thought into what the cast will be wearing. Still I'm sure we'll find out soon enough :)

It will be very interesting to see the appearance changes given the nature of the play.

I'm sure others received an e-mail from Sheffiled Theatres... sharing the info for those who haven't.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to the Crucible Theatre for Betrayal soon.

Ahead of your visit, we wanted to let you have some information that we hope will make your trip to the Theatre as enjoyable as possible.

The show is approximately 80 minutes long without an interval. Crucible Corner will be open for dinner before and after the performance if you are looking for somewhere to eat.

We are running a special offer for post-show dining at Crucible Corner during Betrayal:
Two course meal £14.95
with a complimentary 1/2 bottle of wine
per person

Early booking is advised, call 0114 273 8255 to make your reservation.
We hope you enjoy the show!

Harold Pinter suggested: 'Betrayal can be performed without an interval, or with an interval after Scene Four.'

Span of the play is winter 1968 to Spring 1977. As there is nothing that is essential that ties it to that time period (play was first presented in 1978) I would think it would be considered appropriately contemporary.

This tweet might help clarify the costume discussion:

Cholþ@choltheatre

loved @crucibletheatre production of Pinter's #betrayal last night. 1970s looked so sumptuous - cast, clothes, revolving stage totally fab.

From Vegas to Sheffield via Chicago and Manchester tomorrow! ;D

Here's a feature about Ruth Gemmell and her taking on the role of Emma in Betrayal (with a bonus: the smiling face of Js!).
