John to be guest on Radio 6 Vinyl Revival
« Thread Started on Nov 22, 2011, 7:41pm »

;D Just found this little gem:

[b]6 Music is holding a month-long celebration of vinyl next month, with a new programme from journalist and record collector Pete Paphides extolling the joys of the renascent format.

Vinyl Revival starts on Sunday December 4 at 12pm and sees Paphides, former chief rock critic at The Times, talk to a number of musicians about their love of vinyl.

In the first show he visits Damon Albarn in his studio, with the Blur singer running him through a record collection that includes everything from Adam Ant to African funeral music.

In the second show Paphides talks to Florence Welch about her record collection, which includes rare items from Joan Collins and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Other guests in December include Johnny Marr, Bernard Butler, John Simm, Ryan Adams, Seasick Steve, Wild Beasts, Hot Chip and Young Knives.

Paphides will join Lauren Laverne on her 6 Music show on Thursday December 1 to introduce Vinyl Revival.

Last month the Official Charts Company revealed that year-to-date vinyl sales were tracking 40% up on 2010.

I always enjoy hearing John talk about his favourite music - he's so animated. His enthusiasm makes me want to go and play my favourite tunes... ;D

John's first love really is music, isn't it?

I do tend to get that impression, yes, PP - he certainly seems more relaxed talking 'on air' about that than anything else. :)

Will definitely tune in - love, love hearing John discussing music - he's an actor with a musician's soul - a most powerful combination!!

Find it amusing all the 'retro' interest in vinyl - people digging high fidelity sound, crackles and scratches and all! :D

Not yet - the first weeks' guest is Damon Albarn this coming Sunday, Dec 4th. If the guests are coming on in this order then we have a month until John is on:

Johnny Marr,
Bernard Butler,
John Simm,
Ryan Adams,
Seasick Steve,
Wild Beasts,
Hot Chip and
Young Knives.

I will be checking the programme listings as soon as Sunday's episode finishes!

John will be on at 8pm - Ryan Adams is on right now. Anyone know how to record this (other than sticking one's smartphone by the speakers, LOL!)??

Ryan is talking about metal music and witchcraft and poltergeists...yikes!

;D Listening now - and am keeping a list of what he chooses to play and making notes on the chit chat - would anyone who can't listen like me to tidy it up and post later?

Edit: well that was lovely! List of songs coming up in a min, the rest (if anyone wants it) later... ;D

The list:

1. The Beatles: Please Mr Postman
2. Elvis Presley: I Got Stung
3. The Good, The Bad & The Queen: Green Fields
4. New Order: Bizarre Love Triangle
5. Stone Roses: Breaking Into Heaven
6. Fleetwood Mac: Tusk
7. The Bunnymen: Lips Like Sugar
8. Bob Dylan: Rainy Day Women

'Anyone know how to record this (other than sticking one's smartphone by the speakers, LOL!)??'

How appropriate, goin' all retro for a vinyl show edzel2... ok, you suggest using a smartphone instead of a tape recorder , but the spirit of the thing's there! :D

Know there are clever people who know how to make a audio file out of the programme - sadly I'm not one of them.

Ryan Adams' poltergeist/ghost story really went off the deep end didn't it? ???

Just 'cos i like cute piccies of John (er, um, who doesn't? ;)). This one's off BBC Radio 6 site.

Can't believe he outed his mum as a Manilow fan. Would have kept that secret to my grave!! :D

Well, I've got it recorded and ready to post ... but where? It's too large for my pathetic excuse for a tumblr page. I could try splitting it in half and see if that would work on tumblr. Or I could create a "video" and put it up on YouTube. Any thoughts? Is there any way to post it here?

PP - how about a Youtube video like you did with the other radio programme you recorded - with a suitably gorgeous pic to look at while we're listening? I missed the broadcast due to visitors but hope to listen to it soon.
Ryan Adams - don't know what he was talking about but I love him - wacky guy who makes beautiful music ;D
