Thanks Iam04 - I realised after I'd posted that the date is on the BAFTA website *doh*. Mmm, I suppose he might travel down to London for the award ceremony and back up again on Monday - or as you say, he might film a little speech... but there's no show on Sunday evening.
Been reading some of the press about the nominations and there's a nice article in The Bolton News:
The blogger did have a sort-of "nice thing" to say about John but I wish he hadn't phrased it negatively: "whom I've never liked better..." And I noticed that of the 111 comments only one responder mentioned Exile, with no one mentioning John by name. After such a great--and, I presume, adequately promoted--drama, why does it have such a low profile?
btw, I've noticed that the BAFTA ceremony will be the second TV show of note that weekend: on the preceding evening (May 26th) there's the Eurovision Song Contest. Are we all going to cheer for Engelbert?!!?
Here's a plan, rather than travel from Sheffield, John will just accept his award from a comfortable spot in The Crucible Theatre, and then announce his return as the Master.

I found myself checking the comments, too. But I think one person mentioned his name with a lot of names from the list. It's on the first page of comments (man,I'm really obsessed=)) Of course these are just the comments of people visited the page. Anyone has seen "This is England '88" ? The leading actor,Is he really that good?
I doubt John will win, Sherlock has been talked about constantly and Benedict Cumberbatch is just far too popular at the moment, still congrats to him for the nomination.

I'm taking the "contrarian" approach. Who says the awards committee decides based on the amount of comments made and/or popularity an actor has? Remember, John was nominated for Life on Mars, which was extremely popular with the public, but he didn't get the BAFTA.

Good point. Also, Philip Glenister wasn't even nominated for a BAFTA, was he, even though he was insanely popular with that character. So I guess one cannot always tell. But then again, there's David Tennant...

You know I have just finished the first series of LoM and it's a crime neither Glenister nor Simm won anything for their roles from that show I'm not optimistic but will go with the comments which says it's amazing to see he made the final four...

Yes, that's a thought, isn't it - are there any shows that Phil is in that are up for awards? If not, then maybe that might be part of the reason he is going...?
I agree, kurdt01 - although perhaps John's attendance would have been good promotion for 'Betrayal'... I can understand, though, why he wouldn't if he doesn't expect to win. But how fantastic it would be if he did win! One online article (sorry, can't recall which) did say that "his time will surely come," though, so I think it is generally recognised in the business that John is long overdue for a BAFTA award. Still, there is that saying, isn't there, about it not being the winning but the taking part which is important....

While we were enjoying each others' company at the Crucible Corner, John popped by to tell us that he IS attending the Baftas! I, of course, was waiting for my drink at the bar when this occurred.
