I can imagine John is SO happy to be spending Easter with his family, hunting for (or perhaps decorating) eggs and generally enjoying life.

Hope everyone on the forum is also able to celebrate the holiday with family or good friends this weekend....

Yes I'll second olenza's Easter greetings. It's going to be a quiet one for me after all the excitement of last weekend ;D

FYI, I've decided to revive our Grand Tour of the US (which stalled out in the Grand Canyon), since this would be the perfect time of year to finish it with Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Anchorage, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Honolulu.

I've already started making plans for us to hit Salt Lake City (my old stomping grounds for many years, since Utah is where I was born and grew up), so anyone who's interested, pack up and meet me in the "This Land Is Your Land" thread! 8-)

You're welcome, olenza! The first set of piccies is already up. I'm really excited to be able to show off all the places where I lived and grew up (including my home town of Logan, which is just 90 miles to the north of Salt Lake!) ;D

Belated Easter greetings. :) Mine was fun and I now have some chocolate to tuck into and a jar of Jelly Beans, supposedly to share with my OH, but he'll be lucky if he sees any.

Heading over to the Grand Tour thread ready to sample some more US delights.

As it's been rather quiet in the bar lately, I thought I'd order a new drink in honor of our current experience on tour in the U.S. (led by legaleagle51) - the Salty Dog: http://www.yumsugar.com/Salty-Dog-Cocktail-Recipe-2674478
For variations on colour and taste, here's another version: http://blog.nj.com/the_dish/2011/07/spar....umid_days.html

Now if we could just have one of those humid summer days, that would be perfect!

Don't mention cocktails olenza :( I went to a 2 hour 'Cocktail Masterclass' as part of a hen do and was extremely drunk by 8pm - but I now know how to make a mean Long Island Tea - took me several attempts ::)

Fun recipes olenza! ;D

So now you've a Masters in cocktail mixology, eh jinxed!? :D Long Island Tea's deadly!!! :o

Of late, I've picked up on a quite interesting and humorous progamme on yt. It's called The Supersizers Go... The point is Giles Coren (food critic) and Sue Perkins (comedian) romp through the foods offered in different historical periods.

Here's a study of the drinking customs from the 70's

It's funny you should mention Supersizers imaof4 - loved all the programmes Giles Coren & Sue Perkins did and only watched the 70's one again last night. Highly recommended - think they're reshowing on Watch.

Thanks for the clip from The Supersizers, imaof4 -- it's brilliant! And so appropriate, considering The Seventies now being examined on Channel 4. Cheese and pineapple, vol au vents, black forest gateau... shades of the Twillings' party in LOM Series 2 Ep. 4! And some seriously WEIRD food as well: green mashed potatoes? fish sandwich cake?Swedish bird nests?! ::)

I thought it was great that Giles is longing to bring back the Seventies menus: "Let's set the main course on fire!" ;D

The programmes don't seem to be available on DVD but I see there are loads of them to watch on YouTube. That will keep me busy for quite a while!

Definitely recommend this programme - only 2 series, but they cover an awful lot of history (history of food, to be sure! ;D) and Sue and Giles are fantastic!

Glad to keep you busy! *I think ::)* And you might change your opinion about what's truly weird food once you've seen other episodes.
Still, people wanted to experiment with food to entertain.

I remember that they did one about the Romans that was very interesting and the Victorians one was intriguing too.
