Had a fun Jubilee long weekend. Managed to fit in a theatre trip, barbecue (where the rain just about managed to hold off), trip to the cinema and some shopping.

I enjoyed watching the boats on the Thames and the concert on TV. The comedians who helped present were well behaved although they still managed to get a few quips about corgies and poor Prince Harry. Thought the BBC commentary was not so good and agreed with something I heard on the radio news - that it could have been a bit more well informed and informative about the flotilla.

I went to a Jubilee picnic at my son's school and he brought home an engraved medal which is a good souvenir for him to keep.

Of all the films that are being shown tonight why does it have to be the Full Monty? (e4 9pm)

And to think that this time last Saturday I was in Sheffield only hours off the last performance of Betrayal. And at 9pm that evening I was at the stage door with John and the rest of the cast with the added bonus of having Philip Glenister there too.

A toast to the first day of summer!*ok the solstice was yesterday*[image]

Highlights for my summer - son graduates from high school (now the angst of university/work decisions....)

Off for the summer - until planning for Fall term in August.

Power's out - has been since Friday night. An unexpected tornado has rendered quiet a few places the same. No complaints, I've dry ice for the fridge and freeze... might be up to 10 days before power's restored! No property damage (well, my daughter's windscreen had an unfortunate collision with a tree -she wasn't in the car, thank God, and it's covered by insurance), no one hurt (and there have been plenty of that, fatalities as well. :()I'm at a book shop that both has power and Wi-Fi, but if you don't here from me, you'll understand the places that do have the ammeniities I mentioned are a big draw.

Was thinking of you when I heard about the big storm, imaof4, and I'm very sorry to hear how it has affected you. Didn't something like this happen a year or so ago, with power out and yr house flooded?

Oh imaof4 - poor you :( we've had floods over here but thankfully no tornados.
Hope there's not too much damage and you get your power back soon. And here's us Brits moaning about the rain ::)
Be safe x

Sorry to hear about the power failure, imaof4. Hope the heat doesn't get too overwhelming. Watched on the news last night that the heat and lack of water were the main problems as the water pumps and air conditioning both need electricity to function. Hope they manage to fix the problem soon!

Thinking of you imaof4. Hope that things get back to normal soon and that you really don't have to wait 10 days!

Thank you all for your kind wishes![image]

Power came back 5 minutes ago (that should go on 'you know your a fan' thread... come to the forum first thing!! :D) So very grateful after only 3 days! ;D

Biggest hardship for us was the heat. I use fans for the main floor of the house and usually enjoy a cross breeze. My son was miserable in the refurbished attic (where he does have air-conditioning). He's a teenager, didn't want to come downstairs to sleep. ::) Temps for the past two days has been up to 39° - today , a balmy 33°! :o

Don't usually get tornadoes, honestly!! ??? At this point, it's expect the unexpected I guess.

Read about the floods jinxed - moan all you want, looks pretty significant to me (particularly in the north east)!

June was a record breaker for rain throughout the UK.

Before I catch up with all the things I can do with electricity, would like to request a drink, somethin' cold and tasty - anyone care to join me in a Pimms punch (with cider and fruit)?

Great news about you getting your power back; I trust that it's back for good and your son can finally get some sleep in his own bed.

But Pimm's punch with cider, imaof4??? ??? "Pimm's No. 1 Cup" is the key ingredient in the eponymous punch, at least in our house. Yes, the fruit is also necessary -- you feel so virtuous about having bits of apple and/or strawberry, cucumber, etc. that you don't realize quite how potent the beverage is! I like this little history of the drink:
http://britishfood.about.com/od/drinkingtraditions/a/pimms.htm

Temps in the high 30's are no joke; try to keep cool over there....

In times of extreme stress (tornado definitely counts) I propose a very large Long Island Iced Tea...

Cheers ;D

Long Island Tea! And here olenza was worrying about potency of drink! :D *suits me just fine about now!*

I only know the one recipe, so the question I'l put out to our learned mixologists: How do you make a Pimms Punch?

Bottoms up! ;D
